Please Note our Coronavirus Safety Measures - Visit us with Confidence
Here at The Windmill we've been working hard to be Covid-19 Secure for when the pub is ready to re-Launch! We now have a comprehensive Risk Assessment which will be fully completed, and understood by all owners, management and staff (training will be undertaken where required) so that we can keep as safe as possible whilst visiting. This obviously includes extensive cleaning and sanitation and here's how you can help too, let's Enjoy the Pub again and help to keep each other safe and well!
We will have other notices and signs within the pub, please follow any guidance from those. If the pub is overly busy we might refuse access or ask you to visit another time/ day - please do not be offended by this, we are trying to keep you all safe. Perhaps call ahead and book a table for drinks or food so that you know we'll have a safe space for you and your household. In all of the above, please do visit in confidence knowing that we are doing all we can. Let's all work together to get pubs back on track.
We took over the wonderful Windmill pub on January 13th 2020 and immediately set about refreshing the pub whilst wholly intending to pick up the baton on The Windmill's award winning past with a top quality range of Cask Ales. Add Sunday Roasts, Gin Menus, Afternoon Tea and we welcome you to your pub!
Like many Great British Pubs we have a proud and interesting history. First registered as an Ale House on Tuesday 1st September 1857 it was in fact reported, at that licence application, to have been an Ale-House for 11 years already.
In 1869 the pub was a part of a consortium selling Tea in response to Grocers selling beer and wine!
The Windmill features in an 1880 edition of the Kent & Sussex Courier when a P.C. Avery had to attend to some "quarrelsome" brothers going by the names of Richard and William Sutton.
A shed once housed a skittle alley until WW1 when soldiers required the shed to shoe their mules.
In more recent times the pub has had some dramas as a Tied House with high rents, but thankfully proper publicans, Matthew and Emma (who are now at Nelson Arms Tonbridge), took the pub Freehold and made it Award Winning.
Today the pub is in the capable hands of North & South Leisure, a small family led business with a simple but noble mission, to give independent pubs the best chance possible with a refurbishment, Great Beer, Great Food and Great Service. Please come and make your own bit of History with us here at The Windmill, just maybe not in the way the brothers Sutton did!
Memories are made in the Great British Pub.
Whether it's the Great British Sunday Roast or some Dirty Fries with a Pint! Whether it's the Pie or maybe the Catch of the Day for a mid-week Lunch or our vegetarian Mixed Bean Chilli for an Evening Meal. Here at The Windmill we can't wait to serve you up some simple but delicious fayre.
We tend to keep it Traditional but we can pop in a Panini to accompany your Processo if that's your thing or bring you a Burger to go with your Beer.
We will regularly have a Specials Board to accompany our Main Menus, which are all available below for your convenience
And we will occasionally have Themed Nights to spice things up (or Cool things down). Look out for our Summer Hog Roast which promises to Delight
PARTY BOOKINGS & SPECIAL OCCASIONS
Whether you are celebrating the Life of a loved one with a Funeral Reception or Welcoming a newborn to this wondrous world. We can tailor a Menu or Buffet to suit. Birthday Party, no problem. Retirement bash, let us handle it.
"I've had a few good reasons for drinking,
And one has just entered my head,
if a man can't drink when he's living, how the hell can he drink when he's dead!"
In the last 8 years The Windmill has won no fewer than 7 Awards for Beer Quality, Range and Service. We are a regular listing in the Great British Beer Guide and in January 2020 we fully refurbished the Cellar, serviced the main cooler and fitted brand new beer lines throughout to bring you your beer at the very best it can be.
WE GUARANTEE LOCAL
You can drink our very own Weald Copper Bitter, a collaboration between The Windmill and the brilliant Battle Brewery. Abbey Pale Ale will also feature regularly from Battle Brewery.
Larkins Beer is a firm favourite and will rightly hold a spot on the bar most of the time (disclaimer; we may need to change the barrel from time to time so if's it's not on that is the reason!). Add to that Beers on rotation from Kent Brewery, Northdown, Pig & Porter, Tonbridge Brewery, Mad Cat, Goachers, Gun Brewery , Whitstable Brewery, Longman, Westerham.
So you really are Guaranteed Local Beer as fresh as the brewers themselves want them to be!
