Like many Great British Pubs we have a proud and interesting history. First registered as an Ale House on Tuesday 1st September 1857 it was in fact reported, at that licence application, to have been an Ale-House for 11 years already.
In 1869 the pub was a part of a consortium selling Tea in response to Grocers selling beer and wine!

The Windmill features in an 1880 edition of the Kent & Sussex Courier when a P.C. Avery had to attend to some "quarrelsome" brothers going by the names of Richard and William Sutton.
A shed once housed a skittle alley until WW1 when soldiers required the shed to shoe their mules.
In more recent times the pub has had some dramas as a Tied House with high rents, but thankfully proper publicans, Matthew and Emma (who are now at Nelson Arms Tonbridge), took the pub Freehold and made it Award Winning.
Today the pub is in the capable hands of North & South Leisure, a small family led business with a simple but noble mission, to give independent pubs the best chance possible with a refurbishment, Great Beer, Great Food and Great Service. Please come and make your own bit of History with us here at The Windmill, just maybe not in the way the brothers Sutton did!
Memories are made in the Great British Pub.
